There have been a few ‘firsts’ this week. For example, this is the first time I have stayed in an Airbnb rental. It is quite sufficient for my needs for the next couple of weeks. I am hoping the Airbnb rental I have lined up in New York will serve me equally as well.
I have also been driving Jordan to her job in the mornings and that’s been a new and different experience. I was fortunate during almost my entire career in Los Angeles to always have relatively short commutes – none of which required freeway driving. Now, we are in Studio City and Jordan’s work is in Silver Lake so we get to jump on the 101 Freeway in the morning with a few thousand of our closest friends for the 11 mile trek to her office. And then, of course, Silver Lake is a bit of a maze, but I have a navigation system on my car which I rely on heavily. But, we’re getting the drill down so that should all be good for the next couple of weeks.
Probably the most exciting thing to happen this week was when my friend, Jay, invited me down to his studio in Santa Ana to give me my first stone carving lesson!! It was great fun and I really enjoyed it. I will be going down again one day this week to continue working on my piece of ‘art’. I can see more of this type of work in my future once I get settled somewhere permanently.
And, speaking of permanent – one of the things that has become apparent over the last few weeks as I have gone through the process of changing addresses, etc, etc, is that the ‘world’ is really geared toward people who live in one place and have a permanent address. The corporate world is not very well designed to deal with nomads or people like me in the midst of a lengthy transition.
I called the insurance company who has my prescription drug coverage to update my mailing address. I have been using my sister’s address in Billings, MT since I don’t have a mailing address in New York. So, since this is my new ‘permanent’ address, I had to get a different plan that is now tied to a pharmacy in Billings – even though I’m going to be in New York for the next three or so months!! I’m sure there is a way to deal with all of these issues as there are many RV’ers that are nomadic much of the year. Just part of my learning curve!!
I guess that’s it for now.
