A little chilly!

This morning when I went outside it was a balmy 24 degrees!!  There is no snow on the ground, but it is a bit ‘brisk’!  I think it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow and over the weekend.

After I got done at the gym yesterday morning, I decided to venture downtown to look into getting a Reduced Fare pass (read Senior citizen!) for the MTA (subway) system since I’m going to be here for a while and it allows me to ride at half price.   I figured it would be an adventure one way or another.  I had visions of long lines, etc, etc. but it was a piece of cake.  I now have a photo ID Reduced Fare MTA pass and am good to go!

National Archives Museum of Native Americans

Right down the street was the National Archives Museum of Native Americans so I went in.  They have a great collection and it was fun to browse around.  They have artifacts dating back to the early Inca and Mayan civilization along with much more contemporary things.  It was definitely time well spent.

I had wanted to go to the ‘Museum of Finance’ on Wall Street but it was closed due to damage sustained when a water pipe burst a few weeks ago!  However, I noticed the Federal Reserve Bank of New York was right there and it turns out they have tours!!  So, I signed up for a tour next Wednesday.  Maybe they will give away free gold bars as souvenirs!!  :0)

I exercised my newly minted MTA Reduced Fare card to jump on the subway back to my apartment, grabbed a piece of NY pizza for lunch and relaxed for a bit.  Then I hiked (about a mile) over to the main branch of the New York Public Library right on 5th Avenue and got a temporary library card because of some things that I want to work on.  That was pretty easy as well so I’m just turning in to a regular New Yorker!!

There is a website here called CourseHorse which lists, literally, thousands of courses/ seminars available around the greater New York area.   I signed up for a cheese tasting ‘event’ at a cheese shop in Greenwich Village next week and I have my eye on a welding course over in Brooklyn.   You name just about anything, and there is some kind of a course/seminar/event associated with it.  I’ll see what else I can find to amuse myself.

Jordan has a very heavy class load on Wednesday and Thursday so I doubt I will see her today.  But, she only has one class tomorrow (Friday) morning so I suspect she might be over and then we’ll figure out what to do!   So, for today – nothing on the docket except for my juggling class tonight!!  Yes, you read that correctly – a juggling class!!  It’s one of those things I always wanted to learn to do, the class is $20, well reviewed and within walking distance – what the hell!!  I’m sure it will be a huge exercise in frustration but YOLO – right??  Maybe it will lead to my next career as a street performer!!  :0)   More to come!
