End of Week 2 – NYC

Here I sit on SuperBowl Sunday wrapping up my second week in NYC.   I just finished reviewing Jordan’s calculus homework so my synapses are a bit strained!  It’s been a long time since I have done calculus but I guess it’s good to exercise the brain in new and different ways!  And, speaking of that, yesterday I went to my rescheduled juggling class – it was fun but, as expected, a good dose of humility.   It certainly becomes apparent very quickly that trying to use your non-dominant hand effectively is challenging.  But, again, that is supposed to be good for the brain – we’ll see!

On a more serious note, I went to the Frick Collection last Thursday.  It’s an art collection that is housed in a beautiful building up across from Central Park.  I spent a couple of hours there wandering around.   They have a nice collection of paintings – Rembrandts, Turners, Veronese’s, and many others.  They also have some statues, porcelains and different pieces of furniture.

In addition, they have a free app that you can download to your phone that will provide some information and background on many of the paintings and furnishings. (Both audio and text).  It was well worth the time.  Unfortunately, you are only allowed to take pictures in the courtyard, but its understandable.

The weather was quite pleasant when I left the gallery so I decided to hike back home.  The gallery is on 70th street and I live on 34th so it was a little bit of a walk but I find it fun to just look at all of the stores, restaurants and people.

Jordan came over Friday morning after class and hung out most of the day – some napping, some homework, and then we grabbed some lunch.   I jumped on the subway with her in the evening to go back to the dorm to get ready for her date – yikes!!  But, she came back to my apartment afterwards and spent the night.  This is becoming her little hideaway from all of the college chaos.

Yesterday when we left my apartment, it was bright and sunny – and 19 degrees!!  Needless to say, all of my winter gear is getting a workout!  ;0)
