My first Nor’easter!

It was a pretty quiet week – no galleries, museums or classes!  Of course, we did get hammered by a “Nor’easter” on Wednesday and it was interesting.   The weather forecasters said it was going to get nasty and it did!  There were many areas that got lots of snow, downed trees, flooding in some areas, etc.  The snow was falling sideways outside my window most of the evening but there wasn’t much on the ground the next morning.

Why having a car in NYC is a bad idea!

Jordan is on spring break and headed back to LA for a few days on Friday.  I took her to the airport on Friday.  I learned a very valuable lesson – if you’re trying to get to Penn Station – just take the subway!!  We decided to take an Uber from Jordan’s dorm to Penn Station and then take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) (Cost &7.50) to JFK.  The LIRR connects to the JFK Air Train (cost $5.00)which goes to all of the terminals.  It took as long or longer to get from Jordan’s dorm to Penn Station via Uber (2.5 miles) as it did to go from Penn Station to JFK.  Cars are, in general, a bad way to try to get around in NYC!!  Oh well!  Live and learn!

On the way back from the airport, I decided to take the subway all the way back just for the heck of it.  A couple of different subways connect to the JFK Air Train terminal.  I jumped on the E train and it took about 40 minutes including one train change to get to the subway stop near my apartment.  Piece of cake and the cost – $2.75!!  (Standard flat rate cab fare from JFK to Manhattan is $52.00 plus tax and tip!)

Concrete jungle?

I decided I needed a better camera than my iPhone for my upcoming trips so I decided which camera I wanted, purchased it online from B and H Photo Video and walked over to pick it up today.  B and H Photo Video is an amazing place.  They have a couple of brick and mortar locations in New York but also have a fairly significant on line presence.   It’s hard to imagine there is any piece of camera/video equipment they do not have.  It was a beehive of activity but very well organized and I was able to pick up my new camera with no problem.

Looking east on 42nd toward Times Square

I walked home via 42nd Street/ Times Square just for fun!  Wow – it was sunny and in the low 40’s but there were still tons of tourists looking at all of the glitz!

Jordan and her mom are flying back to New York on Tuesday and will be staying at my place for the rest of the week.   Should be a fun week.
