Really high and really cold!

I live about a 10 – 15 minute walk from the Empire State Building but have never been up to the observation deck.  I’m not really a big crowd fan and the thought of standing in a long line to go up to the observation deck never really appealed to me.  However, this morning it was bright and sunny out and I knew the Empire State Building opens at 8 a.m.  So, off I went and arrived about 8:15 a.m.

There was a small line to get through security but not too bad so without too much hassle I found myself on the 86th floor.   There is another observation deck on the 102nd floor but when I bought my ticket last month, it wasn’t open so I had to settle for the 86th floor – what’s a few stories?  It was cold enough on the 86th floor outside deck.  It was in the 30’s at street level but it was colder than that and much windier on the observation deck.  It was very cold!

I managed to take a few pictures in spite of freezing fingers.  After I walked all around the deck and took my pictures, I headed back down.  Although I was sorely tempted by all of the little miniature Empire State Building replicas in the gift shop, I managed to make my way to the elevator.

By the time I got back downstairs which was a little after 9 a.m., the line was out the door and up the street.  When I walked by the area a couple of hours later on my way somewhere else, the line was down the street and around the corner another 200 – 300 feet!!   Thank goodness I’m an early riser!!  So, I’ve checked the box on the Empire State Building and don’t really feel compelled to do that again!  I wonder what the tallest building in Montana is?
