It seems like my NYC adventure is coming to a rather mundane and rather unexpected ending. I have been offline for the past week because I have been on 100 percent ‘eye rest’! I noticed something funky going on with my left eye a week ago. I called my optometrist’s office in LA to make an appointment when I go back to LA. When I described what was going on, they advised that I should have it looked into asap.
I Googled optometrists in Midtown Manhattan, called someone not too far from me and when I described to them what was going on, they said I should see a retinal specialist!! When I explained I was not a resident and didn’t have medical connections in NY at all, they recommended a retinal specialist. I called his office and by this time, it was about 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
When I explained to the office what was going on, they asked how fast I could get to the office and I told them about 30 minutes. I jumped on the subway and found myself shortly thereafter at an opthamologists office on the Upper East Side. After the exam he explained to me that I had a small tear in the retina of my left eye!! He advised that they take care of it right then and before I knew it, I was sitting back in the chair and having my eye blasted with a laser! (It reminded me of welding without a mask!)
After all was said and done, he told me that I should be on 100 percent ‘eye rest’ for the next week. He went on to explain that meant – no reading, no computer, no gym, no long walks, no cooking!! He basically wanted me to sit on the couch and watch TV – for a week!!! I got a cab back to my apartment and the house arrest began!
Fortunately Jordan was able to come over and bring me food and go to the grocery store. And, I found out that the TV has HBO so I started binge watching Game of Thrones (TV version) and CNN (real life version of Game of Thrones!)- since I was probably only one of a handful of people on the planet who had not seen it!!
I have seen the Dr. since and he said things are healing and looking good. That said, I got a referral from my doctor in LA and have an appointment at the Jules Stein Eye Clinic in LA when I get back to just make sure everything is OK.
However, until I get the greenlight from the opthamologists in LA, I’m going to take it easy my last two weeks here in NYC. I’ll still go for walks but probably no more vigorous gym workouts. There are still a couple of places I hope to get to and Jordan and I are scheduled to go to a Broadway show my last week here. But, other than that, I’m on easy street for a while. I’ll hopefully still get out and get some NYC pictures to post but if my on line presence is minimal for the next few weeks, this post explains why.
Glad you are doing better! Looking forward to seeing you when you are in L.A. Anita
