I just received the proposed itinerary for the ride. I am in the process of putting together a Google map of the route but in the mean time here are a few stats.
Average mileage per riding day: 52.7 miles
Shortest Day: Cedar Crest, NM to Albuquerque, NM – 25.2 miles
Longest Day: Springfield, MO to Carthage, MO – 68.7 miles
Most climbing in one day: Romeroville, NM to Santa Fe, NM – 3,806 feet
Least climbing in one day: Fenner, CA to Amboy, CA – 325 feet
Total mileage: 2,485.4 miles
Total amount of climbing: 81,287 feet
Highest Elevation: El Morro, NM – 7,300 feet
Total of layover or rest days: 7 after we leave Chicago.
Of course, the weather will play a big factor in all of this. Even a relatively short day if ridden into a strong headwind and/or rain can make for a really hard day. And in the mountains, even with a lot of climbing, if the weather is pleasant, it can be a nice day. But a bad weather day in the mountains will not be any fun at all!!!
That’s a quick look. I will try to get the link to the Google map up soon.
Mike – sounds like you’re totally ready for this adventure, it really sounds like a blast! You’ve got a great blog going and I look forward to following your preparations and the ride itself. Keep the posts coming!
